Whether it's to protect from potential thieves or just to put that gorgeous Chanel Boy Enchained Bag from the Fall/Winter 2013 collection up close and personal to the person you're speaking to --- it appears that wearing your messenger bag prominently forward is the way to go.
Pictured above is the gorgeous Chiara Ferragni who demonstrated throughout most of Paris Fashion Week that donning the messenger bag frontwards is where it's at. This was also recently surveyed by the notable fashion blogger Leandra Medine (The Man Repeller) who demonstrated the art of wearing the messenger bag frontwards. She does indicate that there isn't a wrong way to wear a messenger.
It's preferable to keep the messenger bag small as its less conspicuous; however, if you happen to be carrying a cute Valentino Rockstud flap or a Celine Box Bag then wearing it prominently frontwards might not be such a bad idea no matter what size.
