LVMH Chairman and CEO, Bernard Arnault has confirmed today that designer Marc Jacobs is leaving Louis Vuitton to focus on his brand Marc Jacobs. After 16 years of working with the brand, Marc Jacobs will be focusing on his own label as he sets it up for an initial public offering in the next three years.
Jacobs started with Louis Vuitton in 1997, and he started the ready to wear line for the brand. He also initiated the collaborations with different artists like Stephen Sprouse and Takashi Murakami.
He presented his last show, the Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2014 Collection at the last day of Paris Fashion Week. The all black collection showed his best creations from previous seasons for the brand. A carousel, grand fountain, escalators and hotel rooms which were all seen from his past shows, completed the backdrop for his final show. He dedicated the collection to the women inspired him. The show received a standing ovation headed by Bernard Arnault.
No news yet as to who will replace him. Although there are rumors that Nicolas Ghesquiere, former designer of Balenciaga, will be his successor.
